The Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA@NYC) launched in 2012 through the Canadian Consulate General in New York, has entered into a new strategic relationship with Grind, a co-working space designed for entrepreneurs in the heart of New York City. Through Grind, participating companies of the CTA@NYC can access the vibrant start-up ecosystem of New York, enabling connections and collaboration, and ultimately bringing more technology solutions to market. Currently, eight leading-edge Canadian start-ups are at Grind until May.

“We are thrilled about the raw energy, enthusiasm, and drive that the young start-ups are bringing to Grind.  We will also get to support that raw talent and help shape and develop the ideas that they are trying to get into the world.” Says Benjamin Dyett, co-founder of Grind.

Three times a year, through a selection process involving the private sector from both Canada and the U.S., the CTA@NYC brings promising Canadian digital media start-ups to New York City for four months to strengthen their networks and expose them to the City’s leading publishing, media, design, and entertainment companies.

To date, over 50 companies have successfully participated in the CTA@NYC program resulting in numerous partnerships, new clients, and investments for the companies. Several have opened offices in New York, contributing to a strengthened North American innovation ecosystem. Recruitment for the next intake is currently underway.

BDC Venture Capital partners with the Canadian Consulate to fund the CTA program. With more than $1 billion in current and planned investments, BDC Venture Capital is a Canadian investor focusing on IT, health, and energy/clean technology companies, as well as venture funds, with high growth potential.
